Offseason News of the Year (Local Style)
This made my day...twice!
"The New Orleans Saints and Superdome management announced that for the first time in the team's history every suite at the Superdome is sold out for the upcoming Saints season.
Officials say there are 137 suites that range in price from $88,000 to nearly $150,000.
Superdome Commissioner Robert Bruno says this speaks volumes for the region and its economic recovery.
Every seat in the Dome is also sold out to season ticket holders. That benchmark was hit last season."

That's great news for the Saints. This makes me think that there are more people willing to sink money into New Orleans than I thought. Perhaps it's time to revisit the discussion of Superdome vs. new retractable roof stadium. I personally am for the new Stadium. Yes we have lots of great memories at the dome and whatnot, but it was built in 1972 (?). Most people regard the dome like it was built by Bienville...I'd like to see New Orleans again have the crown jewel of the NFL (what the Superdome once was) with a retractable roof stadium that overlooks the river/french quarter/cbd. We'd start getting more superbowls, final 4s, John Cougar Mellencamp concerts, etc.
Yeah, I tend to agree with you. My guess is Benson isn't going to do a long term deal with Blanco and will opt to take his chances with Jindal winning Governorship this fall and then broker a massive long term deal with Louisiana in the coming year or two, including a new stadium for like 2015 or 2020 or so, retractable roof and all. Which is about the time it'll take for this city to get back on it's feet again, provided another natural disaster is averted. And a new stadium would be the cherry on top. A crown jewel of the NFL as you say, after we've won the next 10 super bowls and Sean Payton crowned greatest NFL coach of all time...
Sorry, started to day dream there.
This just proves that if you have a quality product, people will fill the seats. Thanks, Benson. It took you long enough.
As far as a new stadium, I'm all for it. I just don't like the monster that the NFL has come to be. With as much money as the NFL makes, you would think that they would be able to build their own stadiums... I think the Vineyard needs to enter into negotiations with the city of Kenner and threaten to leave if the city doesn't fork up for a new $20 mil facility...
