Flameout

So, in honor of a buddy of mine's post in response to my top 5 current chilled tracks, I'm going to post my current top 5 FLAMEOUT tracks of all time.

To quote my boy, "When life goes too fast, I like to punch the afterburners until flameout..."

And here they are (in no particular order):

1. "Martyr" - Fear Factory
2. "Stein's Theme" - Project 86
3. "Liarsenic" - Norma Jean
4. "Incisions" - Remembering Never
5. "Davidian" - Machine Head

Bonus - "In the Meantime" - Helmet

I know of a song called "In the Meantime" by Spacehog, but I don't know the one by Helmet. Yikes, I've never heard of any of these songs. I like to keep my music light and airy like Corrosion of Conformity and Acid Bath. Sometimes I think I have a "wide" taste of music then I hear of the stuff you and lyell are into and I feel like all I listen to is the Nevermind albumin. More or less if you wouldn't hear it on a radio somewhere I probably haven't heard it...unless its on someone's "greatest hits" album.

A good example is from John Denver's Greatest Hits Vol. 1. In the liner notes, Denver admits that track 5, Rhymes and Reasons is never requested by anyone but includes the best lyrics he thinks he's ever written, so it made it onto his "greatest hits" album...even though it wasn't a hit.

So "Greatest Hits" albums...and radio play. Every now and then I'll listen to an album a friend recommends (or makes me listen to).

Well, John, I know you have a heavy streak in you. I mean, the first Metallica album you bought after you saw them live was "Kill Em All" and that gains huge respect among people who listen to the music Lyell and I do. I know you can appreciate good heavy music when you hear it.

Althought that flameout list is a bit extreme, I wouldn't go pick up each and every one of those tunes, you could actually go sample them from Itunes and check them out but they're very specialized tracks.

I would, however, highly recommend "In The Meantime" by Helmet to you, my friend. GREAT song. It moves me.
