Mock Draft v2.0

That's right, I'm posting an update to this thing they call the NFL Draft. My mind has been consumed the last 2 months with this draft. I'm a freakin junkie, I'll tell you that. I mean, who's a bigger loser, the 15 yr old kid at a Star Trek convention with spock ears and sporting the "live long and prosper" hand sign or me, the NFL junkie that sifts through piles and piles of internet mock drafts, message board and draft blogs. I'm a sucker for it all, rumors and smoke screens, I love it all. Someone help me.

By the way, I'm changing my official pick, I'm not sure where but the Saints will end up with DE Mario Williams, NC State, too much talent to pass up.

Anyway, here's how it could shake out for our beloved Saints depending on the scenario, here's a couple for you:

Scenario #1 - If no trades take place (unlikely):

1. Houston Texans - RB Reggie Bush, USC
2. New Orleans Saints - DE Mario Williams, North Carolina State
3. Tennessee Titans - QB Matt Leinart, USC
4. New York Jets - OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Virginia
5. Green Bay Packers - LB AJ Hawk, Ohio State

If trades are in play (most likely):

Trade 1 (Saints trade #2 overall for Jets #4 overall, Rd #2, Rd #3 pics)
1. Houston Texans - RB Reggie Bush, USC
2. New York Jets - QB Matt Leinart, USC
3. Tennessee Titans - QB Vince Young, Texas
4. New Orleans Saints - DE Mario Williams, North Carolina State
5. Green Bay Packers - LB AJ Hawk, Ohio State

Trade 2 (Saints trade #2 overall to Jets for #4 overall Rd #2, Rd #3 pics, Jets trade #2 overall for Raiders #7 overall Rd #2, Rd #4, Rd #2('07))
1. Houston Texans - RB Reggie Bush, USC
2. Oakland Raiders - QB Matt Leinart, USC
3. Tennessee Titans - QB Vince Young, Texas
4. New Orleans Saints - DE Mario Williams, North Carolina State
5. Green Bay Packers - LB AJ Hawk, Ohio State

And just for fun, if Houston goes nuts and doesn't draft Reggie Bush:
Trade (Saints trade #2 overall for Jets #4 overall, Rd #2, Rd #3 pics)
1. Houston Texans - DE Mario Williams, North Carolina State
2. New York Jets - RB Reggie Bush, USC
3. Tennessee Titans - QB Matt Leinart, USC
4. New Orleans Saints - OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Virginia
5. Green Bay Packers - LB AJ Hawk, Ohio State

Saints 2 round predictions:

Round 1 - DE Mario Williams, NC State
Round 2 - C Nick Mangold, Ohio State
OR
Round 1 - OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Virginia
Round 2 - ILB D'Qwell Jackson, Maryland
OR
Round 1 - LB AJ Hawk, Ohio State
Round 2 - C Nick Mangold, Ohio State

Disclaimer: I reserve the right to change my mind and post another prediction by Friday, April 28th one day before the actual draft, thank you.

Mock Draft v1.0

So, it's that time again ladies and gentlemen, where hopes and dreams begin, that's right it's the 2006 NFL Draft, taking place next Saturday, April 29th & 30th.

Now for those of you who aren't familiar, our beloved New Orleans Saints are picking #2 overall in the first round of the draft thanks to Hurricane Katrina, Jim Haslett, Aaron Brooks & a multitude of other idiots that call themselves football players.

Anyhow, it's been a lot of fun and intrigue leading up to this draft. Since the Houston Texans are picking #1 overall and a seemingly foregone conclusion is that they will draft USC RB Reggie Bush, the Saints are in an interesting position. They have signed blockbuster free agent QB Drew Brees from San Diego and is now our star QB, which takes us out of the QB derby for Matt Leinart, among others. The Saints have many needs besides drafting another QB, such as Offensive Line, Linebacker, Secondary & Defensive Line. So what do they do? Do they trade out, or draft best available player.

Anyway, here's my first take what I think will take place in the first 5 selections of this years NFL Draft, enjoy! I'll have another version of this next week leading up to the draft.

1. Houston Texans - RB Reggie Bush, USC
The Texans sure do have a lot of holes to fill after a dismal season but you can't pass up a franchise changing RB the likes of which the NFL hasn't seen since Barry Sanders. Reggie Bush is going to be special in the NFL and the Texans will find a way to make it work.

2. New York Jets - QB Matt Leinart, USC
Via Trade with the New Orleans Saints for Jets #4(1st), #35(2nd) & #71(3rd). The Jets win a bidding war against the Titans to move up to #2 to get their man and face of the organization. He is the most NFL ready of all QBs in this years draft. Matt Leinart will be an excellent pro and will change the recent losing ways of the New York Jets.

3. Tennessee Titans - QB Vince Young, Texas
After losing out in moving up to #2 spot to draft Matt Leinart, the Titans go with plan B, the highly touted Vince Young who has the highest ceiling of all the quarterbacks in this years draft. This guy can do it all but has some growing to do in his game.

4. New Orleans Saints - OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Virginia
The Saints are thrilled with the trade out of #2 and take the player they were going to pick anyway with the #2 overall. The Saints pick he best Tackle to come out of the draft in several years in Ferguson. This pick makes sense because they are investing in great protection for their star QB in Drew Brees. The Saints will now have two incredibly solid bookend Offensive Tackles in Jamaal Brown & D'Brickashaw Ferguson for many, many years to come and picked up 2 additional first day picks in the process.

5. Green Bay Packers - DE Mario Williams, North Carolina State
Mario Williams is said to be the best Defensive End prospect to come out of the draft since Julius Peppers, at 6'7 and 295, he's a mammoth end with lineback athleticism and great speed. Some are saying Mario could have gone #2 over all and the Packers are lucky to have him at #5.

Possible World Gig

Boys & Girls, get your Doc Martens on and call your friends, it's time for another Possible World rock show! If any of you have not repressed the memory, the last time we played a show, which was our band debut at Tipitina's Uptown in New Orleans, was about 3 days before Katrina changed our lives. So, I'm real anxious to see what happens 3 days after this show happens.

The Tips gig was a great gig though. We had about 150 peeps show up and ended up being a very raucous crowd, and they didn't throw tomatoes at us. I remember my bass broke that night which threw cold water on being able to truly enjoy the show, but no sweat cause we got another 5 string for me before say the 3rd song in the set. Very interesting, it won't happen again, yikes! We had such a good turn out for that show we're probably going to do another Tips show soon, either opening for another band (most likely) or have our own show there (not likely, we dont' have much of a repertoire yet, quantity wise).

Anyway, we're going to be playing at Schneckenfest next Friday, April 21st. The time is kinda TBD because it's a festival and bands get pushed all over the place at festivals but if you get there early enough, say around 6ish, you should be able to check out both Possible World and the Crispin Schroeder Band. You guys let me know if you need to know the exact location of the festival, it's top secret.

Go check out our place at myspace.

Should be kicks!

Check Out My New Wheels...

Disclaimer - I'm not trying to boast here by letting you know I have a new car, just wanted to share a bit of my life I thought was exciting. Please don't take this as me showing my dumb stuff off in your face, thank you.

I'm suburban pimpin now!

2006 Honda Oddysey, yo...

Aight, so yesterday I had an appointment to finish up our paperwork and meet with the dreaded finance manager at the Honda dealership. Me and my pops, who was along for the ride and the discussion, meet with said evil doer and begin the battle of the car payments. In short, I stuck to my guns on what I wanted to pay a month with a little padding they didn't know about or did and just didn't telegraph it, so they gave me about a thousand more for the piece of crap Saturn SL2 over blue book value so they could sell the car, which they did and as you can see I was a happy camper.

Things I learned on my car buying adventure:
1. The experience is not nearly as intimidating as I'd thought.
2. Do your homework and it's much easier to negotiate.
3. Take advantage of the free cokes they offer you while waiting.
4. Car salesmen have zero negotiating power.
5. If they want to sell you the car, they can do a lot to move on the price of the car they're selling.

Road trip!!

Please Turn to Hymn Number U2

According to this story, Episcopal churches across the country are using the “U2 Eucharist” to attract younger visitors to the Church. The idea was devised by a parish priest in Maine who believes “the day will come” when U2 classics will be included in hymnals.

Unlikely but very interesting article complete with female priests and modern christians.

I will say this is kinda out there but it is intriguing to watch the modernization of church services nowadays. I remember when I was a boy in a non denominational church and we sang straight out of the Baptist Hymnal and non denominational churches now are singing songs to cutting edge music and not just piano and a choir, although there is definately a place for that if it's your 'bus', so to speak. I love the way worship is heading in the church but it can taken a little overboard I would think.

We love to take things overboard in this country, don't we?
